Federal inspectors are taking another look at the subsidized apartment complex Eureka Garden after the city revealed mold, pests and potentially dangerous living conditions. Just two months after Eureka Garden passed a federal inspection, city officers issued citations in all but two apartments examined. Mayor Lenny Curry and City Councilman Garrett Dennis called on congressional representatives to ask federal officials to re-inspect the apartments owned by Tennessee nonprofit Global Ministries Foundation. "I could not shake the images of mold, deteriorating stairwells, and other conditions," Curry wrote to legislators. "Heartbreaking," he called it. "I hope and pray that I never forget Ms. Dwan Wilson's dining room table, covered with medication that she tearfully explained that her young children must take due to breathing issues they now suffer since moving into their apartment."
